Lovely Trigger (Tristan & Danika #3) by R.K. Lilley

Lovely Trigger by R.K. Lilley
Series: Tristan & Danika #3

Tristan hit rock bottom, and no one felt the impact harder than Danika. She was forced to see, in the most brutal of ways, that love does not conquer all. Bruised, bloody, and broken she had to walk away.

Picking up the pieces of your life after a tragedy is a daunting prospect, and that’s considering you still own all of the pieces. But what if you don’t? What if someone else owns those pieces, and those pieces are a part of your soul?

You dig deep and work with what you’ve got.

That’s what Danika told herself and believed, every single day, for years.

Tristan and Danika’s love had failed every test that life had thrown at them. She couldn’t forget that, not for one second. And if those tests had been overly harsh, well, she wasn’t one to wallow in self-pity. The failure was the thing she had to focus on. The failure was the lesson. She had no intention of working so hard to make it out of hell without learning that lesson well.

Over six years after the night that changed everything, Danika finds herself forced to spend the weekend constantly in Tristan’s company, as they attend the wedding of two of their dearest friends. It’s been long enough that she feels they can be friendly again without it destroying her peace of mind, but just a small amount of time in his presence has her remembering something she had forced herself to forget: There’d been a reason she’d gone through hell with this man, for this man, some true good to precede the bad.

She shocks herself by quickly giving in to a hunger that she never imagined could still consume her.

Even the best intentioned denial has a breaking point.

After everything that’s happened, the rise and the fall, the pain and the aftermath, can these two navigate the waters of acute regret, survive the trials of coming face to face with all that they have lost, and find the strength to try again?

This book is intended for readers 18 and up.

Silvana's Review
When I first read about Tristan and Danika in The Up In The Air Series, I was intrigued and knew that if there is a book about these two, it will be on the top of my to read list. I can honestly say that it’s one of the best series out there ; Angst, drama, fun moments, true love, hope and redemption, all were our companions in Danika and Tristan’s journey.
At the end of Rock Bottom, we leave Tristan and Danika’s relationship in tatters, reeling from an accident that left Danika a shadow of her former self, as well as Tristan realizing how destructive the path he was on, albeit too late.

Lots of days, it just felt like like the world had lost its color, and the only things that defined my life were the things I’d lost.

The way things ended in Rock Bottom, I never thought I would warm up to Tristan again, R.K. Lilley manages to make me do that, to root for him and his HEA. Whether reading about him through Danika’s eyes or his own POV, I could not help but be touched at witnessing the profound love he has for Danika and the immense regret he feels.

Tristan ~~“I have many regrets, many bad things I must take credit for, but believe me when I say that the negative impact that all of my actions have had on your life is my biggest one.”

Tristan ~~I reeled for an endless moment, as I saw just what I’d done, and tried to cope with it, trying to breathe for even another moment, to live in a skin that I despised down to my soul.

Danika is a heroine that endeared herself to me, her story of endurance, despair and ultimately survival was heart-rending. Her love for Tristan is evident, as too her struggle to not let that love lead her into heartbreak again.

Danika~~We were a train wreck, he and I, but something about touching him had always just felt right to me.

Danika~~I’d been so focused on the bad of him, of us, the bad of all that had happened that I’d forgotten the good.

Lovely Trigger is a well written conclusion to a series that had me enthralled, as well as feeling great sympathy and connection with the two  protagonists . It has the fun moments and steam reminiscent of the first book, as well as angst and drama that was prominent in the second book of the series, Rock Bottom.
These two could not get enough of each other. Steam factor 5 Stars

One of the things I enjoyed is the return of their friendship, them rediscovering their connection and just having fun together. Enjoying the things they loved about each other again and reconnecting on all levels.

“In my whole life, there are only two people that I’ve ever called my best friend.” My eyes filled from his raw tone as much as his words. “You and Jared.”

I have to mention Dahlia, Danika’s sister and Mona, Tristan’s friend, I didn’t like these two at all,  downright annoying.

Highly recommend! I love books that I cannot put down, where  the next day I am  a tired mess yet the lack of sleep was totally worth it.
