Kelsey: 3- Stars
Archer: 4 Stars
Dean 5 ++++ Stars ( I couldn’t leave him out)
Rating Overall: 3.5 Stars
Nina Lane’s writing resonates with me, it’s flawless, so it pains me to give this less than 5 stars. The reason for the rating is that I found myself engaged and interested in the story until the 70% mark, then I just lost interest. I was no longer invested in the relationship between Kelsey and Archer, their moments together seemed forced and I felt myself detached from what’s happening in the book. I lost my momentum and found myself easily distracted, as opposed to when I started the book. What kept me going was the sub-plot involving the brothers and the mending of their broken relationship.
The ending of the book didn’t give me the rush I wanted from a story, just fell flat.
I found being in Kelsey’s head towards the end a chore- While I admired her love for Archer, I couldn’t connect with her as a character.
Archer was a great hero, his pain and struggles felt real. I was so happy to see him have his HEA and finally mend his relationship with his brother, they both had things to work through. Sometimes I wanted to scream at these two guys, such great men but hopeless at being brothers.
Now for Dean, I never knew how much I missed professor West and his beauty until I read their scenes, found myself looking forward to their appearances. Dean is still just as amazing, I will be rereading his books soon.
I loved Nina’s use of symbolism to get her point across without being redundant. I just wish I was able to love this more.
