This story starts 4 years after the ending of its predecessor, Bones is nowhere in sight and Cat is now special agent Cristine RUSSELL, yes she did take the last name of the once human Bones.
“Miss. Cristine Russell.” That was the name I went under now, another tribute to my lost love, since Bones’s human name had been Crispin Russell. My sentimental curse would be the end of me.”
Cat is fighting the rogue undead, as well as trying to move on with her life the best way she can, without Bones. The moment Bones reappears, is one of the highlights of the book for me, I delighted in seeing Cat suffer with regrets for leaving him.
There is someone after Cat, among the many that want her dead, but this one is going to extremes to make sure the job is done. The only way she can beat that guy is with the help of Bones, who doesn’t hesitate to offer his services.
I enjoyed reading this, just as much as book 1. Cat is starting to win me over, she has lost many of her prejudices- however she still has so much work ahead of her before I will be willing to scream ‘Team Cat’.
I don’t have enough words to describe the delicious, protective, strong and loving package that is Bones. My only complaint is that he indulges Cat too much in regards to her jealousies and insecurities.
“Hallo, Kitten.” Hello, Bones! So glad you’re back.
“Careful, luv. I might be angry with you, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still want you. So if you do that again, I’ll shag you right here, right now, and sod anyone who wants to watch” She deserves your anger, Bones- But if you want to take it out on her that way, I’m available.
“I’ve been listening to you snore and watching you cocoon into the bedspread, and I realized I’ve missed this the most. Holding you while you sleep.” I love you Bones
Cat’s mum still grates on my nerves, such a hypocrite when it comes to her daughter’s safety. She turns a blind eye to Cat risking death every day, yet is loath to let her be with Bones who will do everything in his power to safeguard her. She is one of those static characters that irk me, stubborn, blind and just hateful.
I love the dynamics of the team working under Cat, with their different personalities and views on things. My favourite was definitely Joan, he is such a loveable slut, his witty comments always made me smile.
There was a line in the book that made me chuckle and roll my eyes at the same time.
“Once you go dead, no one’s better in bed”
I am looking forward to reading the rest of the novels- if the first two instalments are any indication of the quality of the rest of the books, in terms of action, romance and humour, then I am in for a wonderful treat.
