Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh

1
THE HOT NEW NAME IN PARANORMAL ROMANCE.

Nalini Singh dives into a world torn apart by a powerful race with phenomenal powers of the mind-and none of the heart.

In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of “rehabilitation” – the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was…

Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion – and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities – or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation…

My Rating : 3.5 Stars!

This a paranormal/dystopian romantic novel and though part of a series, can be read as a standalone.

Sascha is a Psy, meaning she belongs to this “supposedly” superior telepathic community where they are expected to have no feelings, no emotions. But Sascha is flawed or broken, because she is starting to feel and if they, her leaders, find out about it, she’d be sentenced to the “horror” of rehabilitation and/or death.

Lucas, is a changeling, a human and a werepanther… the alpha of the Darkriver leopard pack… and the moment he met Sascha, he and that animal in him was fascinated by her… his panther definitely wants her. But most of all, Lucas needs Sascha to have access to their PsyNet cause a Psy serial killer has been kidnapping and killing changeling women and he needs to catch the killer fast before they loose another one… and to stop a war from happening between the Psy and Changeling. So, to make the story short…..

The hunt had begun. And Sascha Duncan was the prey.

I felt bad for Sascha, her feeling alone and broken was really sad. Her need to be held and to belong only to have such cold mother as her only family. And for someone who was brought up to be unfeeling… she is full of heart and she knows right from wrong and she is willing to right a wrong even if it means her death to do so. She makes a really good heroine.

Lucas, the hero, is a real hot alpha who has a very tragic past that makes him very protective to what is his and cautious with his heart. He didn’t want to mate with anyone cause he saw what it did to his father when they lost his mother. But once he got to know Sascha, he has no intention of letting her go. 😉

Rounding off, if I were to rate this based on :

Writing : 5 Stars
Storyline : 5 Stars
World building: 5 Stars
Characters : 4 Stars
Romance : 4 Stars
Sex scenes : 4 Stars

So why the 3.5 Stars right? Because as much as I enjoyed the storyline and liked the characters, the suspense and the action part of the story failed to wow me…. though they were good. And the ending, well, a bit disappointing. There was that war of the minds with the Psy, which was interesting, but what happened next was rounded off to a summary, so that was disappointing.

I was trying to catch up on my friends read and this happens to be one of the authors they love. And this is my first Nalini Singh book and definitely will not be the last.
