Sweet Blood of Mine (Overworld Chronicles #1) by John Corwin

From Mega Nerd to Super Stud.

Justin Case and women do not mix. Man boobs, a love of Kings and Castles, and being tight with the “nerd” crowd certainly don’t win him any points either. After rescuing Katie, his crush, it turns out she might not be the girl he thought she was, while Elyssa, the school’s Goth Girl, turns out to be more. Can high school get any more confusing?

Determined to improve himself, he joins a gym and meets a sexy girl that just oozes a “come hither, Justin” vibe. Until she attacks him in the parking lot, and Justin realizes she’s no ordinary girl but a being with supernatural speed and strength. After a narrow escape and an excruciating migraine headache, he wakes up with supernatural abilities all his own: speed, strength, and the ability to seduce every woman he sees.

While that might sound like the perfect combo for any hormonal teen, Justin is a hopeless romantic who wants his first time to be special. Is that too much to ask for? But he doesn’t know what he is or how to stop his carnal urges. One thing is clear: If he doesn’t find answers there are other more sinister supernaturals who would like nothing better than to make him their eternal plaything and do far worse than kill him.

My Rating : 3.5 Stars!

It is a nice change to read a male POV all throughout the entire book and I gotta say, it started off to a really good start. This is a YA, paranormal, teen angst romantic novel/series… Although I am expecting or hoping for more maturity on the sequels.

The blurb pretty much says what this book is all about. Justin, 18 years old, is this sweet nerdy guy who got his heart broken, decided to change his appearance by doing a complete makeover… a stylish haircut, new wardrobe and a gym membership to lose weight. But Justin is not just any ordinary teen. One day, he woke up to having supernatural abilities; extraordinary speed, strength, and the ability to seduce every woman he sees. Ha! Wouldn’t all male teens just love that?

Except Justin is not like any other hormonal teens. He is a hopeless romantic who wants his first time to be special. But he doesn’t know what he is and he also doesn’t know how to stop this sudden extreme sexual urges. And he needs answers fast before other supernatural beings makes him their plaything.

I love getting to know Justin… he is really a sweet… and funny… a total nerd. 😉  And although he develop into this super stud, you cannot completely take the nerdy part out of him.

I spent the first quarter of the book amused by Justin. The 2nd quarter of the book I was already getting anxious as to what Justin is, I felt it was just overly stretched to finally get the answer. But finally, on the 2nd half of the book we got the answer and I felt like the real story finally began. Now starts the action and suspense part of the story… though I find it dragging, way too much conversations… I did liked the highlight of the story. What I really really love here is the plot of the story/series.

This is one of those where our hero surprisingly turns into more than what is supposedly possible, supernatural power wise that is. I loved that!

His love interest here, Elyssa, I did like her…. but hated her for quickly judging Justin and calling him a monster.

“You’re a monster, a creature. The thought of having kissed you makes me want to vomit. You’re not even human.”

This coming from someone who is not completely human. But then again, she was there for him where it counts the most and almost lost her life to help Justin, so she totally make up for it.

All in all, I think this a very promising start of a series and I got this FREE!!!!

This is well written. I am definitely going to read the follow-ups or sequels… and again, hoping they would graduate from YA to NA. 😉
