Her Last Whisper (Dr. Charlotte Stone #3) by Karen Robards

Dr. Charlotte Stone returns in Karen Robards’s sizzling new thriller!

Madness and murder invaded Dr. Charlotte Stone’s life when she was just a girl—and made her a woman determined to save others from the horror she survived. An expert in the psychology of serial killers, she’s faced down more than her share of human monsters. But Charlie can also communicate with the spirits of those who die violently, an extrasensory skill that has helped the FBI bring lethal predators to justice.

Now, after narrowly escaping death a second time, Charlie’s ready to step away from the edge… before her luck runs out.

Too bad Charlie is too dedicated for her own good—and too devoted to federal agent Tony Bartoli to say no when he asks her to ride shotgun on yet another risky mission. Of course, she already has her hands full with Michael Garland: the handsome, roguish ghost with whom she’s hopelessly in love—a spirit who depends on Charlie to keep him from slipping forever into the dark side of the afterlife. But in the mortal world, beautiful single women are vanishing from Las Vegas hotels at night. All signs indicate that a psychopath is on the prowl in Sin City, and Bartoli’s FBI colleague Lena Kaminsky has reason to fear that her missing sister may be just the killer’s type.

In a town full of fast players and few rules, flushing out a smooth-talking stalker like the Cinderella Killer might be a loser’s game. But for Charlie, the only way to cage her quarry is to plunge back into the homicidal hell she vowed to leave behind—and may not leave alive..

My Rating : 3.5 Stars!

I almost forgot I’ve been waiting for this sequel to come out…. After how everything ended on the last book, I have high hopes that the series will take the story up a notch, like say, Charlie’s seeing and communicating with the spirit going stronger and a relationship more defined maybe?

The story picks up where it left off…. Charlie is back to working at her old job, researching serial killers at Wallens Ridge State Prison. But, ever since her dying and being brought back to life experience, she has been hearing voices in her head at odd moments. And. to cut the story short, Tony is back, again asking for Charlie’s help in finding a serial killer known as the Cinderella Killer who is abducting women in Vegas…. And he is asking her in behalf of Lena, his FBI Colleague, who thinks that said serial killer also took her missing sister.

So, once again, Charlie finds herself working withToni and his FBI team, in search for a killer… Add to that is Charlie’s constant worries over Michael, her handsome, roguish ghost, who depends on her to keep him from slipping forever into the dark side of the afterlife.

It took me longer than normal to finish this book cause I just wasn’t too caught up into it. It did started off to a good start… and I was constantly on the edge when it comes to what is happening with Michael or what would happen to him. But the run around of Charlie’s feelings towards Michael, “I’m falling for him but I can’t love him..” just went on and on… And I just want it to end! Seriously! I was really, REALLY, hoping, this time around, this part would be resolved. Maybe it’s just me, but I was over this scenario with the second book. On scenes where Charlie is forced to be honest with her feelings, it felt like finally we’re getting somewhere. I do get the “why’s”…. how could I not when Charlie constantly rationalize everything over and over. Although, there is that very promising note in the end. Again, something to look forward to.

But, this isn’t just about romance….. There is the mystery and suspense that revolves around said serial killer that also kept me on the edge… Not to mention that climatic scene that was totally nail biting. And I appreciate how the author somehow lead me think on where the story was heading and then proved me totally wrong and head on an really unexpected direction. Ha! Loved all that!

Which leads me to that very intriguing ending!!! Well, now, that just makes me want the next book ASAP!!!! Hope it won’t be a long wait!
