Seventh Grave and No Body (Charley Davidson #7) by Darynda Jones

1
Twelve. Twelve of the deadliest beasts ever forged in the fires of hell have escaped onto our plane, and they want nothing more than to rip out the jugular of Charley Davidson and serve her lifeless, mangled body to Satan for dinner. So there’s that. But Charley has more on her plate than a mob of testy hellhounds. For one thing, her father has disappeared, and the more she retraces his last steps, the more she learns he was conducting an investigation of his own, one that has Charley questioning everything she’s ever known about him. Add to that an ex-BFF who is haunting her night and day, a rash of suicides that has authorities baffled, and a drop-dead sexy fiancé who has attracted the attentions of a local celebrity, and Charley is not having the best week of her life.

A tad north of hell, a hop, skip, and a jump past the realm of eternity, is a little place called Earth, and Charley Davidson, grim reaper extraordinaire, is determined to do everything in her power to protect it.

We’re doomed.

4.5 LOL, HOT AND FULL OF SURPRISES STARS!

This is definitely one of my favourite paranormal series… I was going to do a quick refresher on the previous book, but it turned out, I really didn’t have to, as I easily fall into the story and the characters ’cause that’s just how good the author writes them! 😉 Fantastic!

So Charley is preggy with Reyes’s baby, yay! And, the slightly hormonal Charley who is also on caffeine withdrawal (the horror!), will not let the twelve hellions from hell, who wants to rip her body to pieces and serve to satan, stop her from still going on with her life and doing her job, which is, in this case, to investigate the series of missing people who left identical suicide notes behind…. Add to that, there are bodies stolen from their grave at Sunset Cemetery. And… her father seems to have disappeared too. There is all this and more!

Charley is adorable! And her power is constantly growing, I love that! She is such a fun and funny heroine, definitely a favourite… I just love her. From the start to the end I was laughing at her antics and smart mouth. 😉 It sounds spontaneous and natural, not over the top. 😀

(A sample : A conversation between Charley and her ex-bff, Jessica, who is in love with Reyes:)

“Then I’ll leave.”
I fought my innate desire to do a fist pump. “That’s probably best.”
“Because, really, I’m completely, unconditionally, and irrevocably in love with him.”
“Okay, Bella. You need to find your own man, now. Capisce?”

Hey, I’m a Twilight fan, I thought that was funny! 😀

And Reyes, sigh… I will never forget what he did on the previous book when he took down the wall that connects their bedroom. He is still that perfect, very protective super hot Reyes. He is sooo bad and I love it! Keep it going! 😉

I love all the cast and characters of this book… they form such odd dysfunctional family… it’s perfect! Osh is the one that surprised me the most here!!!

I enjoyed the never ending humour… The story seamlessly fall together in the end… And the most awaited climatic scene was jaw dropping!

The thing I wasn’t most inclined with in the story was how a mere mortal, who is also psychotic, was able to get close to Charley. Another thing, Charlie saw a hidden camera when she went to investigate that Amityville house… shouldn’t she have said something about it? And last, I wish there was more about the prophesy than crime busting…

Other than that, everything was divine!!! Lots of surprises, I most specially love the one in the end.

I want more!!!

Here is a sample of the audiobook… I thought the narrator did a fabulous job!
