Angels’ Blood (Guild Hunter #1) by Nalini Singh

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she is the best- but she does not know if even she is good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, Elena knows failure is not an option—even if the task is impossible.

Because this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other—and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt does not destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just might. For when archangels play, mortals break.

4.5 intense Stars!!!

I have been meaning to read this series for a long time but for some reason, I just keep forgetting! 😉 But I’m so glad I finally remembered! Cause I loved it!

Elena a.k.a. Ellie is a Guild Hunter. A twenty-eight years old vampire hunter.. She was born a hunter and is the best on what she do… And since she is the best, she is hired by the most dangerous and so beautiful archangel, Raphael, the archangel of New York. This time, she will not be tracking a vampire… she will be tracking an archangel that’s gone really bad. And failure is not an option.

And.. add to that… there is the dangerous seduction between Elena and Raphael.

Welcome to the world where Angels, Vampires and Hunters exists!

Elena is a very stubborn, smart and brave heroine who had a traumatic childhood experience and still suffers from nightmares… At first I was a bit confused as to why she sounds a bit too angry and untrusting… Then I see bits and pieces of her past. Add to that a very cold father… I understood then that she has issues… big issues. And slowly, I get what makes her who she is… And totally get her character. Plus, I just love it when a woman kicks ass!

Raphael, on the other hand, is all powerful, sexy, compelling and the perfect alpha male with an attitude…

“Marking me, angel boy?”

“I prefer to do that with my cock.”

Perfect! My kind of angel!!! 😀

(Though, I really don’t know the how’s or why’s when Raphael goes in the “Quiet” ,a sort of angel meditative trance(?)…. he becomes this cold person or in his case angel.)

The first quarter of the story, I was a bit confused… cause it’s more about who gets the upper hand between Elena and Raphael… But as the story moved forward, it got more intriguing… as they search for the rogue archangel and I get to see such interesting world between angels and vamps… and as slowly, I got to know the two main characters more. I specially loved it when Elena finally lets loose and enjoyed the moment and stake her claim on Raphael! Ha! 😉

The supporting characters here are all equally interesting as well.

The way the author describes all these gorgeous angels with their magnificent wings….

Eyes of such pure undiluted blue it was as if some heavenly artist had crushed sapphires into his paints and then colored in the irises with the finest of brushes.

She was still reeling from the visual shock when a sudden wind swept across the rooftop, lifting up strands of his black hair. But black was too tame a word for it. It was so pure it held echoes of the night, vivid and passionate. Cut in careless layers that stopped at the nape of his neck, it bared the sharp angles of his face and made her fingers curl with the urge to stroke.

Yes, he was beautiful, but it was the beauty of a warrior or a conqueror. This man had power stamped on every inch of his skin, every piece of his flesh. And that was before she took in the exquisite perfection of his wings. The feathers were a soft white and appeared dusted with gold. But when she concentrated, she saw the truth—each individual filament of each individual feather bore a golden tip.

…in a world where you get to see them…

She looked up, able to see the light-filled column of the city’s Archangel Tower from the huge plate-glass window that had made this apartment so ridiculously expensive . . . and attractive. Being able to sit and watch the angels take wing from the high balconies of the Tower was her guiltiest pleasure.

At night, they appeared as soft, dark shadows. But in the daytime, their wings shimmered bright in the sun, their movements incredibly graceful. They came and went throughout the day, but sometimes she saw them simply sitting, high up on those balconies, their legs hanging over the sides. The younger angels, she’d guessed, though youth was a relative term.

Even knowing that most of them were decades older than she was, the sight always made her smile. It was the one and only time she’d ever glimpsed them acting in a way that could be described as normal.

… definitely had me in awe and sighing! Gush!!! Where is this world cause I am moving in!!! So dreamy!!!

What can I say… I definitely LOVED this…. the writing was excellent… The highlighted scene was breathtaking… I was in tears in anticipation! And the unexpected outcome was definitely a big surprise! Could not get better than that!

While this is such a great start of a series… I am left with so many questions still… Like Elena’s constant flashbacks… what happened to her and her mom and siblings? She talks about her mom and magic, what was her mom? What is wrong with her father? What does “making Raphael more human” mean?

That said… I can’t wait to read the next book!
