**** ARC PROVIDED BY PUBLISHER VIA NETGALLEY IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST OPINION ****

This book started so promising, I really thought it was another winner by KA but around the 30% it seemed to fizzle and stayed that way throughout.

High was another appealing alpha hero by Kristen Ashley, she writes strong heroes like no other,  I liked Millie as well, but their connection seemed lacking; their interactions lacked the passion and fun found in her earlier books.

The conflict was resolved too quickly and then nothing much seemed to happen. I loved the appearances by characters from her earlier books especially Tack, unfortunately not enough to love this book.

For me, Kristen Ashley missed the mark with this novel and has been a bit of a hit and miss lately with her latest releases; still looking forward to her new ventures as she’s one author whose books I will always buy. Not every book can be a winner but most of KA’s books have been winners and on my favorite shelf.

4/4.5 Stars!

AAAH this book is by far my favorite of the three books, only due to the character growth which Montes went through. I rarely keep on reading books which have a hero that doesn’t appeal to me, however the smooth writing by the author, the drama and the heroine kept me engrossed and wanting to read. In this book , Montes managed to make the book, he was the star. In book 1, the king Montes wasn’t my ideal hero, he was weak, vain and selfish. By book 3, Montes was everything a hero should be.

Reading The Queen of All That Lives, nothing went the way I thought it would after the cliffhanger of book 2. By 49% I thought I had everything figured out and was certain of my theories as to the resolution of the conflict, I just kept on reading to see how the author will take us there; however nothing was like I predicted it to be, the author added a few twists that I wasn’t expecting. The second half of the book kept me glued to the pages.

The only reason I didn’t rate this 5 stars is due to the repetitive inner thoughts of our protagonists, I would have liked more dialogue as I really enjoyed the banter between Serenity and Montes. When I first started the series, Montes and Serenity were not a couple I was rooting for, their dysfunctional relationship had me doubting a HEA. The series went on and I fell in love with their dynamics, the mistrust, love, hate and obsession.

13236065_10153660172186608_572708997_n

“Serenity?” I glance over at him. “I was lying. You don’t get a choice. I’ll give you five minutes to change, and then whatever state of dress you’re in, my men will bring you to me.” He’s so lucky I don’t have a gun..

This has been quite an entertaining series, the journey to the last book has been nothing but fun. I would love a spin-off book about a certain character, just saying!

3.5/4 Stars!

This was suggested by my lovely friend Gaby, who is  a big fan of Suzanne Wright; it was my first read by Suzanne and it certainly won’t be my last.

The problem I had with first books in some series of the PNR/Fantasy genre, that a few authors concentrate on world building and developing the characters, that it takes away from the plot and the romance, not Ms Wright; We have here a complete novel IMO that had all the elements to make it enjoyable. This book had descriptive and captivating writing, an engaging and fast-moving plot, well-developed characters, suspense and action which made this FUN, FUN and more FUN to read.

One of the main things I enjoyed were the characters, and as Gabs perfectly described them, our protagonists Harper and Knox are ‘sassy and bossy’- Thank the lord for that as I was really getting sick of ‘whiny and whipped’. They were well-developed, had such great chemistry, amusing banter and the sexual tension was riveting. Suzanne Wright made a strong believer out of me, from the first few chapters that Harper and Knox belonged together.

I have to mention the secondary characters who were just as interesting and enjoyable, mainly Knox’ sentinels and Harper’s friends, I see some sparks there, can’t wait to read their own books- The villains and the suspense made for some nail-biting moments.

While it’s not a ‘I can’t put it down’ kind of read for me, I still recommend it and would read the following books.

Ride Steady (Chaos #3) by Kristen Ashley~~~Review~~~

23341855 The ride of her life . . . Once upon a time, Carissa Teodoro believed in happy endings. Money, marriage, motherhood: everything came easy—until she woke up to the ugly truth about her Prince Charming. Now a struggling, single mom and stranded by a flat tire, Carissa’s pondering her mistakes when a vaguely familiar knight rides to her rescue on a ton of horsepower. Climb on and hold tight . . . In high school, Carson Steele was a bad boy loner who put Carissa on a pedestal where she stayed far beyond his reach. Today, he’s the hard-bodied biker known only as Joker, and from the way Carissa’s acting, it’s clear she’s falling fast. While catching her is irresistible, knowing what to do with her is a different story. A good girl like Carissa is the least likely fit with the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Too bad holding back is so damned hard. Now, as Joker’s secrets are revealed and an outside threat endangers the club, Joker must decide whether to ride steady with Carissa—or ride away forever . . .

**** ARC PROVIDED BY PUBLISHER VIA NETGALLEY IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST OPINION ****

When I need a book that guarantees me a fun heroine, an alpha hero and an engaging plot that is rich in romance, humor and great characters; I always look for a KA book, whether a new book or a reread of my favorites. KA is my guilty pleasure sans the guilt- A perfect comfort read.

Ride Steady has to be my favorite out of the Chaos series, really enjoyed it. I loved the fact that it started with our hero’s back story while he was still in high school, where our heroine Carissa is a cheerleader and he is smitten with her from afar- there were moments I loved and some which were painful, how I wished to inflict pain on Carson’s dad for the way he treated him.

Fast forward to the present and Carson is known as joker, a member of Tack’s MC gang. Carson is reunited with Carissa when he helps her while stranded on the road,  finds her broken by a bitter divorce and burnt by her ex ; unfortunately she doesn’t recognize him and so starts our journey with these two.  As with all KA’s heroes, he acted like a bit of a jerk towards Carissa at the beginning, but KA alphas thankfully do not follow the concept of ‘cheap grace’, once they decide to redeem themselves in the heroine’s eyes, they go all out.

This is a book for KA’s die-hard fans, a ‘not to miss’ for her loyal readers who know the KA brand, what to expect from it and which KA never fails to deliver- a FUN read which is not heavy on angst, great writing and the best epilogues.

Mare’s Review:

Dearest Virgin Scribe. JR Ward RUINED me.

I have been as per usual searching high and low for a book that would break me in 2. Well Fuck me twice, I need not search anymore.

I have had bulging eye syndrome for 4 days now. I never want to look at my face in the mirror again. Cold compresses on my eyes don’t work, hugs don’t work, nothing worked. NOTHING.

This is BDB! A book I would devour in 1 day. Because lets face it, JR Ward’s boyz are good for a few things. Great sex, funny talk, good jokes, True?

Who knew I’d read my boyz Trez and iAm and completely shatter?????????? I for sure as fuck didn’t!

Now I know lots of people are going to hate this book. Rant, rave and stew because Ward did it again!

********SPOLIER *******
She killed off another Shellan.

And here’s where for me the 2 books differ. I didn’t cry when Wellsley was killed. I didn’t. Cause I don’t read BDB for the women. I read it for the guys. Face it. We all want to be that Shellan or Chosen to our favourite vamps. Shit I want an orgy with 5 of them. So the girls, meh, I don’t really care. Except for Bella. I like her 🙂

And going into book 13 I didn’t really care for Selena. Not really anyways. But DAMMIT. SHE MADE ME LIKE HER! I FUCKING LIKED HER!!! AND SHE DIED!!!!!
And the whole book was 1 big depressing funeral. Because Lord knows you knew it was coming from the beginning of the book. YOU KNEW. And you had to read this whole book crying big tears with snot running down your nose, trying to catch your breath because you cried so hard you COULDNT BREATHE!!!!!!!!

descriptionWhat would I do without your smart mouth?
Drawing me in, and you kicking me out
You’ve got my head spinning, no kidding, I can’t pin you down
What’s going on in that beautiful mind
I’m on your magical mystery ride
And I’m so dizzy, don’t know what hit me, but I’ll be alright
description

Trez and Selena’s date. JFC. I died. I died so much inside. I cried so hard. I couldn’t Breathe.

Because say what you will. Trez. He’s a man of worth. Seriously. His thoughts, his actions, his thoughts. His thoughts did me every.single.time.

description Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I’ll give my all to you
You’re my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I’m winning
‘Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you
description

When he would continuously touch her hands. My undoing.

descriptionHow many times do I have to tell you
Even when you’re crying you’re beautiful too
The world is beating you down, I’m around through every mood
You’re my downfall, you’re my muse
My worst distraction, my rhythm and blues
I can’t stop singing, it’s ringing, in my head for you
description

Every time she cried. My undoing

description
Give me all of you
Cards on the table, we’re both showing hearts
Risking it all, though it’s hard
description

Their epic fight. JC was that ever my undoing.

When she died. Im tearing up writing this and thinking about it. Because for the Love of Everything HEA are needed. No one is supposed to DIE!

But I can see, in a way, why Ward did it. Because we would have had another Z/Phury book. You would have had another Doc Jane. It would have been a repetitive motion all over again.

And in the way Ward did conveyed so much love. So much heartache. So much Realness and Rawness that you felt yourself bleeding along with Trez.
This is my opinion. And I respect every opinion out there. Even the 1 star reviews. Because truly in a paranormal romance one of your main MCs SHOULD NOT DIE.

This was hands down the Best BDB book i have ever read to date. And that is saying something because Lord knows i love me my Qhuinn. And Zsadist. And V True.

It was not the characterization. It wasn’t the setting. It was her words that damaged me.

This is a book that i wish i could read for the 1st time over again. But i know, When I need that good cry, the one that rips your soul apart, the one that has booger and tears streaming down your face, the one where your daughter says “MOM! Are you alright?” And hugs you so tight. Where your husband rubs your back because he knows that you needed this and your search for 1 of the best books ever has been found. That feeling. Is priceless.

Silvana’s Thoughts

What can I say that Mare hasn’t written above in her review, this book was a journey into  heartache. I have to confess that I read the spoiler which JR Ward wrote on release day, I read it and it made me want to read this novel even more.

This is by far one of the most heartbreaking BDB books to date, I understand why many readers were angry with the direction it took, it’s the Paranormal Genre and in this genre,  the plot took a route that was a first, it was too much but just right for me. It made me cry, sometimes sob but I loved it; This came at a time in my life, where I needed this kind of read.

Selena, my poor Selena, I loved reading about her in this installment. her and Trez were magic; It’s like JR Ward wrote one of the most beautiful love stories, just so she can see us wallow in misery upon reading how it turns out.

iAM gets his HEA and what a great HEA it is; The twists it took for that to happen were unexpected and very much welcomed.

Layla appears in this and I loved reading her scenes very much; the lady needs her HEA and I want it with Xcor, she has definitely earned it. Xcor may not have been my favorite character in the BDB books, but reading this made me like even him a lot more. I can’t wait to see how their story unravels.

Rhage made me smile a lot while reading this, being in his head was such a welcome relief; His love for Mary made me sigh, true and everlasting.  I cannot wait for his book which is next.

I wish my favorite king vampire appeared more in this one, what can I say, I can’t get enough of Wrath- Hope to see more of him in the next book.

I am giving this 5++++ based on how it made me feel, as well as the usual JR Ward’s brilliance with words. I have to thank Mare for reading this with me, having someone cry alongside of you has never been this much fun.

Review of The Consequence of Loving Colton(Consequence #1) by Rachel Van Dyken

23381448

My name is Milo Caro and I have a confession to make.

I’ve been in love with Colton Mathews since I was five. He should have known that sharing a cookie with a sugar obsessed little monster would do the trick–it sealed his fate. So really, the fact that he’s sporting a black eye, a limp, almostgot ran over by a car, and was nearly responsible for another person’s death? Right. HIs fault. Not mine.I made a pact with myself–this weekend wouldbe different. I’d come home for my brothers wedding, smile, and Colton would naturally melt into my arms, we’d get married have five kids, live in a house by the river, and get a dog named scratch (clearly I’ve thought this through). What really happened? I punched my brother in the face, Colton kissed me and apologized, I lied about having a boyfriend, oh and everyone wants to meet the mystery man.

They say laughter always comes before insanity–ha, ha. All I wanted was my brother’s best friend…instead I’m sitting in prison.

Let this be a lesson to you all…life rarely happens the way you want it to.

Damn cookie.

Silvana's Review

three-half-stars

Rachel is a favorite with us here on the blog, her books never disappoint, she writes different kind of genres but her romantic comedies are my go to; The Bet series is one of favorite romantic comedy books, made me laugh out loud many times.  While The Consequence of Loving Colton is not as funny, it was a fun light read ; well written and full of humor.

The Consequence of Loving Colton was over the top, whether with its humor or sweetness, and I really enjoyed it.

I actually liked the secondary characters more than I did our protagonists, sorry Milo and Colton but Max is my favorite character- Can’t wait for his book.

Stories about unrequited love are my favorite, and Milo’s quest to get Colton jealous and gain his attention is so much fun to read. Colton’s reaction is no less so.

If you enjoy a sweet humorous romance, then this is the book for you; It is sure to lighten your mood and give you a smile long after you finish.

Even though the first book of this series, The Will,  wasn’t a big hit with me and I kept saying that I will pass on reading any other books in the Magdalene series, I had to read this; It is Kristen Ashley after all and I can never resist, I’m so glad I did.

We met Mickey, our hero, in The Will and to be honest, I wasn’t a big fan. Having read his story In Soaring, I fell in love with Mickey. I loved Mickey and Amelia together, their banter, the fights, how their relationship progressed and their passion. As with every KA hero, Mickey has some scenes where he acts like a complete jerk, but boy does he make up for them.

Amelia is a toned down version of heroines from KA’s earlier work, but still fun to read. I hated how she blamed herself for many things to do with her relationship with her kids, I wanted to smack her children badly at one time. Amy was a perfect match for Mickey, she didn’t let him walk all over her, not that he wanted to but she held her own even early on when they first meet.

Soaring is a such an enjoyable book about a woman’s journey towards redeeming and finding herself after a messy divorce and past mistakes. It’s a great tale about a man willing to risk his fear and take a chance.  This was not a fast paced story, the romance took time to build, these two had a lot to work through, but in true KA fashion, they did and  gave me a much enjoyable story about second chances and hope- it’s never too late to achieve your dreams and build yourself up again.

“Fuck yeah,” he answered. “The mistakes we make in life don’t define us, Amy. The way we handle ’em after makin’ ’em do.”

Kristen Ashley, Soaring

As with all KA books, this was a fun read, especially when it comes to the family relationships, whether healthy or dysfunctional. Not to mention the female friendships.

As for the epilogue, what can I say but I loved it,  for me reading a KA epilogue always leaves me smiling long after I finish the book; Heartwarming, fun and a perfect ending.

“Life isn’t always beauty,” he returned. “Most of the time it’s shit. But you keep fightin’ to turn it around, that says it all about you. And you’re fightin’. As a fighter too, I fuckin’ love that in you.”

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus shehas been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.
