Pre- Release Review: Craving’s Creek by Mel Bossa

25461925

Blurb:

For the man he loves, he will fight—body, mind, and soul.

Fourteen years ago, on a sun-drenched summer day on the banks of Craving’s Creek, Ryde swore to his best friend, Alistair, he’d never be alone in the world. Though Alistair was destined for the priesthood, there was something beyond holy about the first kiss they shared.

But a fun camping trip went horribly wrong when Alistair was involved in a horrific incident.

Now, at age thirty-one, Ryde’s life is a mess of alcohol and the painful imprint of his last look into Alistair’s desperate eyes. Since the evil they encountered on that shore, his first love has been lost to him—until he learns a friend’s wedding is to be officiated by a priest named Father Alistair Genet.

Amid the rush of emotions, one thought crystallizes: Ryde’s love for Alistair not only has never died, it’s stronger than ever. Stronger than God. But it may be no match for the church…and the repressed memories that are slowly tearing Alistair’s mind apart.

Warning: Contains a drunken confessional, a self-destructive clergyman, and a fight to the spiritual death for love.

My lover’s got humour
She’s the giggle at a funeral
Knows everybody’s disapproval
I should’ve worshipped her sooner
If the heavens ever did speak
She’s the last true mouthpiece
Every Sunday’s getting more bleak
A fresh poison each week

4

Sometimes it isn’t about the cover or even the story. Sometimes it’s what the written word can do to you. Your soul. Your heart.

Words written over 2000 years ago still have the essence to sooth you or burn you. Wars, love, hate, right, wrong. They all come from sources. No matter who your God is, no matter what your religion, we still to this day go back to this book and pray, cry, scream, yell, laugh. baptize, marry and bury.

A book that has been passed down from generation to generation. That has stayed the same no matter how much the world has changed, evolved, grown.

4

“We were born sick,” you heard them say it
My church offers no absolutes
She tells me, “Worship in the bedroom.”
The only heaven I’ll be sent to
Is when I’m alone with you
I was born sick
But I love it
Command me to be well
Aaay. Amen. Amen. Amen

4

Cravings Creek gripped me from page 1. I finished this book in 3 hours. This book. This book is Mel Bossa. This book is what I’ve been craving.

She has a way of intercepting the past and the present. She has a way of exploring family dynamics, right and wrong, feelings that bleed on the pages. You can feel it. She has these 1 liners that speak to my soul.

“Beauty is like a scent. It clings to you even when its gone.”

4

Take me to church
I’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life

 4

The story starts with the boys at 17. In lust and a perpetual state of hornyness. Written in 1st person, we enter the mind of Ryde and his obsession with Alistair.

My Lord but did Ryde wear his heart on his sleeve. You wanted to yell at him slow down, relax, breathe. He was so intense. And you felt the intensity on the pages.

“Her love is so big, it’s like standing in front of the ocean with a straw. No matter how much I try, I’ll never be able to take all of my mother’s love in.”

4

If I’m a pagan of the good times
My lover’s the sunlight
To keep the Goddess on my side
She demands a sacrifice

4

“I don’t really know how to…I mean, how can I compete with God?”

The story takes us through a 14-15 year span with a horrific tragedy and how ultimately these boys have dealt with it. Or rather haven’t.

The fight for love, and obstacles, the essence of your very being, how your past can shape your future.

Mental illness and suppressed memories.

4

Drain the whole sea
Get something shiny
Something meaty for the main course
That’s a fine-looking high horse
What you got in the stable?
We’ve a lot of starving faithful

4

Obstacles, the fact that someone’s belief can stand in the way of your happiness. The rigid mind frames, the open minds, the zealous,  the people helping you fight the good fight. The HFN.

This book. Ugh. This book was so bloody good IMO. It had to of been for me to read it in 1 sitting.

Right, wrong, belief, hope.

In the end, the truth will always set us free.

4

Take me to church
I’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I’ll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife
Offer me my deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
No Masters or Kings
When the Ritual begins
There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin
In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene
Only then I am human
Only then I am clean
Ooh oh. Amen. Amen. Amen.

Review of The Consequence of Loving Colton(Consequence #1) by Rachel Van Dyken

23381448

My name is Milo Caro and I have a confession to make.

I’ve been in love with Colton Mathews since I was five. He should have known that sharing a cookie with a sugar obsessed little monster would do the trick–it sealed his fate. So really, the fact that he’s sporting a black eye, a limp, almostgot ran over by a car, and was nearly responsible for another person’s death? Right. HIs fault. Not mine.I made a pact with myself–this weekend wouldbe different. I’d come home for my brothers wedding, smile, and Colton would naturally melt into my arms, we’d get married have five kids, live in a house by the river, and get a dog named scratch (clearly I’ve thought this through). What really happened? I punched my brother in the face, Colton kissed me and apologized, I lied about having a boyfriend, oh and everyone wants to meet the mystery man.

They say laughter always comes before insanity–ha, ha. All I wanted was my brother’s best friend…instead I’m sitting in prison.

Let this be a lesson to you all…life rarely happens the way you want it to.

Damn cookie.

Silvana's Review

three-half-stars

Rachel is a favorite with us here on the blog, her books never disappoint, she writes different kind of genres but her romantic comedies are my go to; The Bet series is one of favorite romantic comedy books, made me laugh out loud many times.  While The Consequence of Loving Colton is not as funny, it was a fun light read ; well written and full of humor.

The Consequence of Loving Colton was over the top, whether with its humor or sweetness, and I really enjoyed it.

I actually liked the secondary characters more than I did our protagonists, sorry Milo and Colton but Max is my favorite character- Can’t wait for his book.

Stories about unrequited love are my favorite, and Milo’s quest to get Colton jealous and gain his attention is so much fun to read. Colton’s reaction is no less so.

If you enjoy a sweet humorous romance, then this is the book for you; It is sure to lighten your mood and give you a smile long after you finish.

Pre-Release: Falling (Fall or Break #1) by Barbara Elsborg

23521523

About the book:

Falling is easy. Landing without breaking your heart? Impossible.

Harper is no longer behind bars, but it doesn’t feel like it. Ten years serving time for a crime he didn’t commit have left him shut down, numb, and a frozen wreck over the simplest of choices.

He’s acutely aware of the dark-haired young man checking him out in the supermarket, but he’s too deep in panic mode to even meet the guy’s gaze. Afraid the slightest move will trigger a fall that will never stop.

Fresh off a long-term relationship with a controlling man, Malachi is stuck living with relatives who think he’s a waste of oxygen. The tall guy in the long, gray coat is the first bright spot he’s glimpsed in a long time…though the man’s unblinking stare at a bottle of shower gel is a touch alarming.

Hard experience tells both of them to turn away before lust turns to hopeless attraction, and inevitably to disaster. But once their sparks connect, the arc of electricity is too strong to deny. Even if the cost is too much to bear.

Warning: Contains an ex-con with disaster written all over him, a boy toy who’s trouble with a capital T, a damp old British house, compulsive meddling, and enough hot sex to cure the severe case of nervous babbling.

* thank you Samhain Publishing via Netgalley for a copy of this e-book *

Im 100% in love with that cover and all covers that Samhain has been putting out. Just had to get that out there!

4 solid stars

Blimey!

This book had me so torn up. I liked it, it kept my interest. I kept saying I didn’t love it. As if there was something off about it, and I couldn’t put my finger on it! Maybe I thought the 2 MCs together were just….off?!?! Except when they were together they scorched me. They lit up my insides. It has been a real long time where I have picked up a new read and felt my insides slowly burning…. the feeling in that pit of your stomach… that this! this book! it’s going somewhere!

Then I thought hmmmm, its darker, edgier, def has angst… but not a Mareangstbook? What is it that is making me feel as if this just another read???

13 hours later I still cant tell you, but I can tell you that this book, the last 25% grew and exploded and made me think… Blimey!!!!! (new word for OMG and fits with the Brit boys in this book) this is FANTASTIC.

The mystery ran smoothly, the whodunit, the clues, worked seamlessly IMO.

The sex. The sex is so desperate and so hot and so just so… I have no words for it. When you read this book you will know what I mean.

The characters, so complex and you can feel (Harper’s) desperation, you can actually feel his heartbeat.

I loved both MCs equally. They both had qualities that you would want to find in a man. And the laughter and conversations melted me. Melted me.

I went through…

Smile

Giggle

Pout

Frown

Smile

Sweat

That was hott yet Im laughing

Biting my nails

Twisting my hair

Frown

Smile

This book shall give you it all.

And I will let you know that I really really really can’t wait for Book 2.

Once you meet Conrad I think you’re also going to be salivating for Book 2.

Dear Ms Elsborg.

Please dont make us wait long~

Yours truly,

Pre-Release: Off Campus (Bend or Break #1) by Amy Jo Cousins

22857416

Synopsis:

Everyone’s got secrets. Some are just harder to hide.

With his father’s ponzi scheme assets frozen, Tom Worthington believes finishing college is impossible unless he can pay his own way. After months sleeping in his car and gypsy-cabbing for cash, he’s ready to do just that.

But his new, older-student housing comes with an unapologetically gay roommate. Tom doesn’t ask why Reese Anders has been separated from the rest of the student population. He’s just happy to be sleeping in a bed.

Reese isn’t about to share his brutal story with his gruff new roommate. You’ve seen one homophobic jock, you’ve seen ’em all. He plans to drag every twink on campus into his bed until Tom moves out. But soon it becomes clear Tom isn’t budging.

Tom isn’t going to let some late-night sex noise scare him off, especially when it’s turning him on. But he doesn’t want any drama either. He’ll keep his hands, if not his eyes, to himself. Boundaries have a way of blurring when you start sharing truths, though. And if Tom and Reese cross too many lines, they may need to find out just how far they can bend…before they break.

Warning: This book contains cranky roommates who vacillate between lashing out and licking, some male/male voyeurism, emotional baggage that neither guy wants to unpack, and the definitive proof that sound carries in college housing.

Mare's Review

1st off Thank You Samhain Publishing via Netgalley for a copy of the e-book.

Secondly that cover… O.M.G… that cover is HELLA… HELLA HOTT. I wanna hug it and squeeze it and sleep with it. That’s how much I love the cover. Because the model… I don’t know who is he but he reminds me of someone who I fell in love with this summer, Zach from BB16. (Big Brother 16).

891502_590484361055438_946443760_a

So this story was my Zach story where he wasn’t just bi-curious but totally ended up with his guy. Gah. This cover. Gets 5+ Send Mare into a lust induced coma stars.

The overall story I enjoyed. I liked the concept, the story line, Reese, the slow burn angst.

However at some moments I really really really wanted to punch Tom in the face.

I facilitated between punching him out and hugging him and then punching him again.

DUDE. Get over it. Was pretty much my mantra.

Did I love Reese?? YES. SO MUCH.

My Reese….GAH LOVE

10725094_1430927233812988_901706609_a

(anyone else see the resemblance or just me????)

It got to the point where I kinda wished that the story was in Reese’s POV. I really wish I knew his story more in depth.

This was my 1st Amy Jo Cousins book, but Goodreads advised me that she has many a books that I will totally get to.

I liked her wording, the way she spun the story, and of course Reese.

It is the 1st story that I haven’t DNF’d in weeks so, I thank you Ms Cousin from the bottom of my heart for resurrecting me back.

Rating : 🌟🌟🌟🌟

OK I have to start by saying that I was looking forward to Picnic’s book and dreading it at the same time- I didn’t like the last two books in the series much. Let me say Reaper’s Stand did not disappoint but delivered in spades, IMO the best biker book I have read. This is not my go to genre and lately I have gravitated towards darker reads so to enjoy this so much was a delightful surprise.

Reaper’s Stand was just engrossing, read it in one sitting.

Nancy

Rating : 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I too was looking forward to reading Picnic’s book and I just knew that it’s going to be as pervy, as hot, as bad-ass and as engaging as Picnic! And it certainly did not disappoint! I LOVED it!

I devoured this book…  enjoyed the sizzling  romance, the humour, the suspense and the action. Definitely one of my favourite.

Silvana & Nancy’s Joint Review

London or Loni runs her own cleaning business.. and one of the establishment that she service is Pawns, a pawn shop owned by the Reapers MC whose president is Reese Hayes a.k.a. Picnic.  And she worked hard to keep her relationship with the MC’s on professional level….. That is until….

London is very protective when it comes to her niece, Jessica or Jess, who is trouble and self-destructive. So when Jess attended a party by no other than the Reapers MC, London had no choice but to ask Picnic a favour… to help her search for Jess and to ban her from going back to the club. And Picnic intends to collect on that favour specially since he had eyed London for  a quite sometime now. 😉

There are so many things that we loved about this book and one of those things is that both lead characters are more mature, experienced and well-rounded. It is quite a pleasing change.

If we loved Picnic before, we love him even more here. Picnic’s character is just perfect, a great blend of good and ‘assholish’. He wasn’t at all what we expected and everything we wanted in a male lead. The chemistry between him and Loni (London) was sizzling. His POV had us laughing… like the way he flaunts to London that he has this huge (ehemm) sex drive…. 😉

1

Then, there was this particular scene which led to one HOT encounter, but London’s thoughts made us laugh, thinking “lady you need help”- however it’s Picnic so who could blame her.

It was also endearing to read on Picnic’s loyalty and love towards his late wife with the imaginary conversation he made out in his head.

We couldn’t have picked a more perfect woman for Picnic with London. She is sweet, brave,  honest and tough where it counts. Loni got on our nerves a few times, but we have to say she is our favorite heroine so far in the series; although, in a moment of desperation, she failed and fucked up big time, we were left wondering as how she would be able to redeem herself after that. However the author, surprised us again, she not only redeemed London’s character but she made her gain the respect of the entire MC brothers.

Every great biker story should, or preferably should always have that suspense and action that is part of the allure in their  dangerous world and lifestyle; here enters the ongoing war of the club against the drug cartel… And London just so happens to be caught up in the middle of it all!!

We love how the story came together and with just the perfect ending.

Old characters returned and new characters are introduced….

Can’t wait for Jessica’s book…. Our hearts bleed for her… What a complete tease on that Bonus Epilogue, we’re sure Jess’s story with her mystery biker is gonna be another hot read!

Expected publication: February 2nd 2015 by Riptide Publishing

Book 3:

Expected publication: March 9th 2015 by Riptide Publishing

About the series:

Mac and Henry aren’t just an odd couple—they’re completely improbable: a tough-as-nails, by-the-book FBI agent who picked the wrong week to give up caffeine and donuts, and a young con man who’s as handsome as he is difficult to pin down. But when they’re stuck on the run together, the snark and heat reach Shakespearean proportions. Or maybe that’s just Henry’s flair for the dramatic.

Rural Indiana has never seen an accidental crime-fighting duo quite like this. But when the danger’s over and the play’s done, Mac and Henry may have to write their own script to find a happy ending.

Thank you Netgalley via Riptide Publishing for the e-copy of these books!

I have mad author love for both Lisa Henry and J.A Rock. My 1 wish is that someday I get to be in a room when they are plotting their next joint story. Whether they are going for dark, sad and twisted or fun with fisting 🙂 you’re sure to get a dose of greatness. I was honoured to be able to Beta read Another Man’s Treasure for these 2 ladies. A dark and twisted book that left me feeling a little desolate. I was able to pre- review When All The World Sleeps and was so amazed how these 2 thought up some of the shit they did. And my heart hurt. And the ANGST. OMG these 2 do ANGST so well.

And here’s a well known secret. They write fun stuff too! Like make you LOL and LOL!

Mark Cooper VS America

So much fun and hot that book!

So now I get to tell you about Playing the Fool.

Well no I won’t spoil it for anyone because it’s a long time b4 it releases to the public but I will tell you to Treat yourself with book 1 for Christmas. Good tidings and good cheer! A little Mac and a little Henry really will leave you feeling good.

I can’t even imagine how much these 2 ladies must of laughed their asses off writing some of the sentences in these books.

I am totally not Disguspressed ! Like not at all. I am totally and 100% in love with the way these stories flowed.

Henry and Mac take you on such a fun fun ride. Costumes and dresses! Guns and murder!

Candy and donuts and just say no to sugar.

Say no to decaf and nasty ass tea!

Happy birthdays, twisted persona’s, running, someone’s always running.

So here’s my advice. Start this book with a great big mug of coffee (pot! pot of coffee) and a box of doughnuts. Don’t share the doughnuts with anyone. This box should be your’s and your’s alone. Ensure that you have lots of candy or chocolate with you at all times.

If you’re on a diet this book is not for you 😉

I’m totally saddened that this ride has ended for me…. for now

I am so disguspressed with those last 2 words cause I want more more more and soon soon soon and please please please!

But alas while I wait to see if get more Mac and Henry….  I’ll take some Brandon and Alex to keep me company!!!

About Sweetwater:

Sweetwater_400x600

Wyoming Territory, 1870.

Elijah Carter is afflicted. Most of the townsfolk of South Pass City treat him as a simpleton

because he’s deaf, but that’s not what shames him the most. Something in Elijah runs contrary to

nature and to God. Something that Elijah desperately tries to keep hidden.

Harlan Crane, owner of the Empire saloon, knows Elijah for what he is—and for all the ungodly

things he wants. And Crane isn’t the only one. Grady Mullins desires Elijah too, but unlike Crane,

he refuses to push or mistreat the young man.

When violence shatters Elijah’s world, he is caught between two very different men and two

devastating urges: revenge and despair. In a boomtown teetering on the edge of a bust, Elijah must

face what it means to be a man in control of his own destiny, and choose a course that might end

his life . . . or truly begin it for the very first time.
