Bound by Flames (Night Prince #3) by Jeaniene Frost

16173427Play with fire, pay the price.

Leila’s years on the carnie circuit were certainly an education. What she didn’t learn: how to be a vampire, or how to be married to the most famous vampire of them all. Adjusting to both has Leila teetering on a knife edge between passion and peril, and now the real danger is about to begin…

Vlad must battle with a centuries-old enemy whose reach stretches across continents and whose strength equals his own. It isn’t like Vlad to feel fear, but he does…for Leila, because his enemy knows she is Vlad’s greatest weakness. As friend and foe alike align against him—and his overprotectiveness drives Leila away—Vlad’s love for his new bride could be the very thing that dooms them both…

Nancy’s Thoughts***

four-stars

I am a HUGE fan of Jeaniene Frost and it all started with the series Night Huntress If you haven’t read that one, I highly recommend you do. I fell in love with Bones in Night Huntress, same as I fell in love with Vlad there and much much more here on his very own series. Miss Frost writes such strong and equally different and interesting and consistent characters that you just can’t get enough of.  Really, really good!  😀

The story picked up where it left off… with Leila and Vlad still on the hunt for Vlad’s oldest enemy, Mihaly Szilagyi. And dealing still with  Vlad’s caveman attitude when it comes to his protectiveness towards  Leila. If he was frustratingly protective then, it only gets better or worst, depends on how you take it that is, hehe.  For Leila,  it has only gone worst. 😉

I could not help but love Leila’s character. She is funny and she does not linger or create any drama but instead, finds a way to move forward. And most of all, she kicks ass! 😉

The story is a lot more darker than the previous ones. There is a lot of action and thrill that kept me at the edge of my seat. It is edgy and with more angst. The romance only gets more intense and hotter than ever. It basically left me high in love. 😉

Vlad’s character is very consistent and  possibly  hotter as he gets more powerful!

Rar

Then there’s Maximus, dear Maximus… I hope he would still be there in the future books, his parting was just too sad.

Despite this being with 390 pages.. it felt like a short read cause it is fast paced, next thing I know, I am at the end of the page. Sigh. I just want to keep reading.  I would say the ending is a stalemate between a cliffy and not, as one problem is resolve and another I think bigger one just showed up. 😉 Can’t wait for the next one! 😀

Silvana’s Thoughts***

four-stars

Well as soon as this came out, I had to start it and boy did I gobble it up. The writing is smooth and captures your attention- add to it great action, strong characterization and an entertaining dialogue, all this makes Bound By Flames an engrossing, entertaining book and a joy to read. Not to mention the romance between one of my favorite couples.

We start book 3 with Vlad still hunting that elusive enemy intent on harming him and Leila. I again have to agree with Nance’s thoughts above, I did feel that this is a much darker read than the previous installments and I loved that, the feeling of suspense and not knowing where it was all heading, kept me glued to the pages.

Let’s talk about Vlad and Leila, absolutely adore our two protagonists. Jeaniene Frost did not DISAPPOINT and kept their characters consistent; Leila was the same old Leila, funny, feisty, vulnerable, loyal and totally in love with Vlad. Vlad was as protective as ever, one of my favorite heroes, no doubt about that.  Their scenes together sizzled, made me laugh and at times left me feeling sentimental, especially when Vlad’s ex-wife Carla was mentioned. I loved how this part of the story  was beautifully handled, with such sensitivity and that Vlad got his closure.

OK what about that twist at the end, totally unexpected and boy did I love it!

My only issue with the book and why I rated it 4 stars is poor Leila and the things she had to go through, AGAIN. I did feel uncomfortable reading some of the scenes, my heart hurt for her.

Cannot wait for the next book in Vlad’s and Leila’s journey.

Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust– the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? The Night Prince series tells the story of Leila, our heroine who possesses special abilities that make her a target for very bad people, leading to her kidnapping. The events that follow have her meeting our very yummy Vlad Tepesh; If you have read the Night Huntress series, you would have met Vlad and maybe like me, fell in love with his character; For me he completely stood out from other characters and was  such a scene stealer.  Knowing he had a series out, well I couldn’t resist starting it and I’m glad I did.

I’m sure anyone familiar with her work knows that Jeaniene is an author with a really strong voice- I love Jeaniene’s heroes, a combination of sexy, brooding, funny and alpha, remaining consistent throughout. Vlad was that and much more.

Leila was a unique character, strong and funny. Her insecurities did grate on my nerves  at certain parts, however I ended book 2  loving her .

One of the things that kept me engrossed in these books, besides the action, is the humor which is top-notch. I love the banter and the witty one liners.

Some of my favorite quotes from both books and there are many :

“No, I do my torturing in the dungeon like any other respectable castle owner,”
― Jeaniene Frost, Once Burned

“That one tickled. If electrocution is your way of flirting, I commend you on your originality.”
― Jeaniene Frost, Once Burned

“I’m attracted to a lot of hot guys. If Chris Hemsworth were here, I’d light him up like a firecracker with how fast I’d jump on him.”
― Jeaniene Frost, Once Burned

“Two Leilas seemed to be battling it out inside me. The first was outraged that he still considered it a fait accompli that I’d give in to him, and the second…that slutty bitch was wondering what Vlad looked like naked.”
― Jeaniene Frost, Once Burned

“You should be afraid. Very afraid. Before, I told you if you wanted to end things between us, I would let you go, but, Leila”–his voice deepened–“I lied.”
― Jeaniene Frost, Twice Tempted<<<<   yup, I love Vlad.

“If you introduce yourself to anyone as Mrs. Dracula, I’ll bite you in a manner you won’t enjoy.”
― Jeaniene Frost, Twice Tempted

Also we get to see a bit of Bones, and what’s not to like about that.

“He was also handsome in a too-pretty way that made me think with less muscles, a wig, and some makeup, he’d look great in a dress.
Vlad’s scowl vanished into a smile as the brunet’s gaze swung in my direction as though he’d somehow heard that.
“Looks as though she’s put you in your place as well, Bones,” Vlad drawled.”
― Jeaniene Frost, Once Burned

Book 1, Once Burned,  doesn’t end with a cliffy but leaves you wanting more, needing to know what’s going to happen next. The chemistry between Vlad and Leila is scorching, loved seeing their connection grow and  where their relationship is at, towards the end of book 2; Now to endure the wait for book 3.

After I finished the second book Twice Tempted,  and saw the trailer for DRACULA UNTOLD (2014) , I had to watch it. It’s safe to say that it’s one movie Vlad wouldn’t mind being based on his life. Luke Evans is HOT and so delicious, the perfect Vlad.

If you haven’t read the Night Huntress Series and the Night Prince by Jeaniene Frost, then I highly recommend, both are exceptional reading.

6871617Danger waits on both sides of the grave.

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they’ve triumphed over the latest battle, Cat’s new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance . . .

With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous “ally”; the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war . . . to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.

And an amazing series continues and with it my love for Bones, my favorite vampire. Unfortunately this is  my least favorite book in the series. Don’t get me wrong, I love the romance, the action, the humor, the plot twists and the interaction between the characters. However I actually missed the drama between Cat and Bones, while I love how much they have progressed in their relationship, their old banter is missing. Everything seemed to go too smoothly, much too smoothly but I did enjoy chapter 21 ( not as hot as chapter 32 in book 2 but holds its own). Also there was a lot going on in the book, too many subplots that were a bit distracting.

Vlad is definitely my favorite secondary character,  memorable and a stand out. Vlad and Cat have great chemistry together and I love their friendship, though Bones does not.

“Much slower, I turned around to see Vlad examining his fingernails, as if his hands weren’t still ablaze in the flames that had blasted the ghoul’s head off moments before.
‘what the hell was that?’ I gasped.
‘Premature inflammation,’ He replied. ‘Happens sometimes. Very embarrassing, I don’t like to talk about it.’ ”

This was still a very enjoyable read that had me chuckling a lot and the action was just as well written as in previous books.  Can’t wait to read Vlad’s books and hope book 6 in the series brings back the excitement of the first 4 books.

5 STARS!!

The action, suspense, drama, humor, romance and a little bit of angst, all worked together to make this my favorite book in the series so far, it had it all.  Bones and Cat are easily becoming one of my favorite book couples, can’t get enough.

BONES = yummy, he gets better and better with each book, loyal, loving and a protective partner. He maybe patient but he’s no pushover,  so I was not surprised at him exploding and finally saying enough is enough when Cat does something impulsive and acts without thinking, AGAIN. What follows are moments of uncertainty regarding his actions, hoping there is a good explanation and I may have hated him for a bit, however that didn’t last long. By the end, I fell in love with Bones’ character again. He is what a true alpha hero should be, without being an overbearing asshole and over the top.

description

I spent most of the Night Huntress Series between loving Cat and wanting to smack her, the woman is stubborn; However I did feel sorry for her in this installment, though she is a big catalyst for the drama that occurs between her and Bones, but she does redeem herself in a big way. It’s good to see her character growth and the way she matures with every book.

When I started this series, I never thought I would actually care for Cat’s mum and her safety, let alone like her; little did I know that she becomes one of the favorites. She still tends to drive poor Cat crazy most of the time.

“She was my mother. I couldn’t threaten to slap, stab, beat or even name call her. I tried to think of something to scare her into never mentioning the predicament with the Dreamsnatcher again. I’ll become a swinger,” I said. her eyes bugged. Uptight rearing made her uncomfortable with alternate lifestyles. “That’s right. threesomes, foursomes, and more. bones knows about a thousand chicks who’d love to hop into bed with us. It’ll be kinky, we’ll get out freak on.-”

I really enjoyed how Destined For an Early Grave was both character and plot-driven, full of action, characters that just are endearing and witty dialogue.  Not a boring moment. The more books I read of this series, the more addicted I become.

4 Stars!!

I have to admit that I found the beginning really slow and was starting to feel a bit detached, while I love Cat and Bones as a couple, I was getting a bit bored with the romance and the whole scenario involving Tate. Tate’s constant attempts at goading Bones, as well as making gooey eyes at  Cat nonstop, were annoying me; he is one character that got on my nerves, his obsession with cat, as well the tit for tat with Bones are getting tiresome.

However this soon changed, the plot took a turn for the better and I found myself immersed in reading- One aspect that made this a great read for me is the action, the action scenes were very well written and had me riveted. The twists kept coming and I enjoyed reading about the amazing secondary characters, be it the good guys or the villains; I am in love with Vlad already and can’t wait to read his books.

I will confess to liking Justina’s character more and more, she seems to be changing and is growing on me. I love her interactions with Bones,  and the pleasure he derives from driving Justina mad.

“Actually, Justina, I didn’t just ring you to chat about what an undead murderer i was…right, degenerate whore as well. Did I ever tell you my mum was one? No? Oh, blimey, I come from a long line of whores, in fact I called to give you the good news. I asked your daughter to marry me and she accepted. Congratulations, I will officially be your son-in-law. Now, do you want me to call you Mum straightaway, or wait until after the wedding?”

The drama involving Bones and Cat’s reaction to it, broke my heart, I am so glad Vlad talked Cat out of doing something stupid. By the end of the book, I fell in love with Cat and Bones as a couple again, though Bones needs to stop protecting Cat so much, she’s a big girl.

One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress #2)

You can run from the grave, but you can’t hide…

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She’s still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.

Being around Bones awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline rush of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head—wanted: dead or half-alive—means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard Cat tries to keep things professional between them, she’ll find that desire lasts forever…and Bones won’t let her get away again.

4 STARS!!

This story starts 4 years after the ending of its predecessor, Bones is nowhere in sight and Cat is now special agent Cristine RUSSELL, yes she did take the last name of the once human Bones.

“Miss. Cristine Russell.” That was the name I went under now, another tribute to my lost love, since Bones’s human name had been Crispin Russell. My sentimental curse would be the end of me.”

Cat is fighting the rogue undead, as well as trying to move on with her life the best way she can, without Bones.   The moment Bones reappears, is one of the highlights of the book for me, I delighted in seeing Cat suffer with regrets for leaving him.

There is someone after Cat, among the many that want her dead, but this one is going to extremes to make sure the job is done. The only way she can beat that guy is with the help of Bones, who doesn’t hesitate to offer his services.

I enjoyed reading this, just as much as book 1.  Cat is starting to win me over, she has lost many of her prejudices- however she still has so much work ahead of her before I will be willing to scream ‘Team Cat’.

I don’t have enough words to describe the delicious, protective, strong  and loving  package that is Bones. My only complaint is that he indulges Cat too much in regards to her jealousies and insecurities.

“Hallo, Kitten.” Hello, Bones! So glad you’re back.

“Careful, luv. I might be angry with you, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still want you. So if you do that again, I’ll shag you right here, right now, and sod anyone who wants to watch” She deserves your anger, Bones- But if you want to take it out on her that way, I’m available.

“I’ve been listening to you snore and watching you cocoon into the bedspread, and I realized I’ve missed this the most. Holding you while you sleep.” I love you Bones

Cat’s mum still grates on my nerves, such a hypocrite when it comes to her daughter’s safety. She turns a blind eye to Cat risking death every day, yet  is loath to let her be with Bones who will do everything in his power to safeguard her. She is one of those static characters that irk me, stubborn, blind and just hateful.

I love the dynamics of the team working under Cat, with their different personalities and views on things. My favourite was definitely Joan, he is such a loveable slut, his witty comments always made me smile.

There was a line in the book that made me chuckle and roll my eyes at the same time.

“Once you go dead, no one’s better in bed”

I am looking forward to reading the rest of the novels- if the first two instalments are any indication of the quality of the rest of the books, in terms of action, romance and humour, then I am in for a wonderful treat.

Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress #1) by Jeaniene Frost Review

5441773Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father – the one responsible for ruining her mother’s life. Then she’s captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She’s amazed she doesn’t end up as his dinner – are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn’t have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.
IMPORTANT NOTE TO READERS:

There is a specific reading order for the Night Huntress series, including all other Night Huntress World series books, and some novellas. If you do not read them in the Author’s suggested reading order (below), other than ‘Reckoning’, the books will not make sense, or you will read spoilers. The author’s recommended reading order is:
RECKONING (eBook prequel novella set in Bones’s point of view before he meets Cat*) though I would recommend reading this after Book 1 so that you know the characters…

HAPPILY NEVER AFTER (eBook novella*)
AT GRAVE’S END (Book 3: Night Huntress Series)

Let me start with the heroine Cat, she drove me so insane. I considered not finishing this for a moment- However the great writing, along with an engrossing story line and a FANTASTIC HERO in Bones, made me go on. The writing just flowed, not a boring moment with lots of action. My only complaint was Cat,  stubborn, narrow-minded and idiotic. Some of the things that come out of her mouth….

Seriously for most of the novel, I just wanted her to just shut it and think before she speaks

I did try to put myself in her shoes, concerning her mother’s past and the environment she was raised in, then I’d remember her age. Cat is old enough to know that bad exists, in humans as well as vampires- She herself witnesses this on many occasions, yet her prejudice and bias never cease. I am hoping to see a lot more character growth in the coming novels. I have to admit that being in her head was sometimes hilarious, she also begins to redeem herself as the book progresses. Then we are left with that ending and  again I’m feeling angry.

Now for Bones, he is PERFECT. I just love his humor, he is loyal, loving and a true alpha, pure perfection.  Bones’ attitude never once comes across as overbearing or off-putting. He sure does not let Cat ride roughshod over him, but is the picture of devotion nonetheless.

“You stare straight through me as if I’m not even there. You look at me…and you don’t see a man. You see a vampire, and therefore accord me less substance”

One of the main reasons I am reading the following books is Bones, I just hope Cat proves herself worthy of him in the coming instalments.

Other things I loved besides the romance, are the action and the side characters, the evil ones as well as the good, not to forget the ignorant ones. I quite enjoyed seeing Cat kick Hennessey and Oliver’s asses.

I am glad I finally took the plunge to read this, highly entertaining. If you are like me, always late to the party and still haven’t started this series in 2014, I highly recommend. Better late than never.
