Deep (Stage Dive #4) by Kylie Scott Review

Don’t miss a beat with the fourth and final novel in the USA Today bestselling Stage Dive series from Kylie Scott.

Positive. With two little lines on a pregnancy test, everything in Lizzy Rollins’ ordinary life is about to change forever. And all because of one big mistake in Vegas with Ben Nicholson, the irresistibly sexy bass player for Stage Dive. So what if Ben’s the only man she’s ever met who can make her feel completely safe, cherished, and out of control with desire at the same time? Lizzy knows the gorgeous rock star isn’t looking for anything more permanent than a good time, no matter how much she wishes differently.

Ben knows Lizzy is off limits. Completely and utterly. She’s his best friend’s little sister now, and no matter how hot the chemistry is between them, no matter how sweet and sexy she is, he’s not going to go there. But when Ben is forced to keep the one girl he’s always had a weakness for out of trouble in Sin City, he quickly learns that what happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay there. Now he and Lizzie are connected in the deepest way possible…but will it lead to a connection of the heart?

Nancy’s thoughts:
  Complete Entertainment Stars!

I am such a huge fan of this series. I love the humour and the romance altogether. And Ms. Kylie Scott always create such wonderful characters! I was most definitely entertained and more!

Lizzy, Anne’s younger sister, had this huge crush and immense attraction towards Ben from the very first time she saw him…. So, she decided to pursue him while Ben tried to stay away from Lizzy even when he was just as equally attracted to her… Except that one time, that one night in Vegas… and they acted on said attraction. What’s one night right? Well, it only took that one night to get Lizzy pregnant!

And the problem here is Ben,the Bass player of Sky Dive, because he has commitment-phobe… he doesn’t date, much less have a girlfriend… And he wouldn’t change his lifestyle for anything and anyone. Now comes a baby!!!

It was easy to relate and fall in love with Lizzy’s character. She has such charming personality! Her thoughts had me laughing. A hormonal Lizzy is double the fun! All in all, she really is a smart lady, she can read Ben so well. It’s just that… she hopes. But she also knows when she’s had enough.

Ben, no matter how much of an ass his character was towards Lizzy, I really couldn’t hate him. He sounds more like a boy afraid someone will take his toys away from him. 😉 But, he really does have his reasons, or so he thinks. Men can be so dumb yet adorable, and that’s basically how I picture Ben. 😉

And speaking of boys, I mean men 😀 … Mal, Jimmy and David with their respective better halves, of course, are all in full force here too! With Mal stealing the scene now and then. He definitely had me laughing out loud. And I finally got to read about Anne and Mal’s wedding! I think that was a bonus!

I just totally enjoyed all their funny spontaneous convos!

There was just the right amount of angst that triggered all sorts of emotions! One minute it had me laughing, then laughing some more, then sad, then angry (but never angry enough when it comes to Ben). Then it had me tearing up some… Then it had me smiling in the end. 😀 Perfect!

Don’t forget the hot factor… there is a lot of “fire-trucking” involved. 😉

Beautifully, beautifully written! I have nothing but high praise!

Silvana’s thoughts :

Well my thoughts about this mirror Nancy’s, I loved it; Honestly I put this off thinking that I wouldn’t enjoy it as much as I did.

Lizzy was a character I could not help but like, her thoughts conveyed her emotions in a way that wasn’t whiny and there  were times where I was laughing while reading them.  I did feel for our Lizzy, but it was nothing that she didn’t bring on herself from the beginning.

I was never Ben’s biggest fan and I thought he was a bit of jerk in book 1, well he is still a jerk but one I grew to love while reading this installment. Ms Scott stayed true to his character; there was growth and yet it wasn’t done too quickly as to make the reader need to suspend their disbelief, in order to enjoy the book. Ben took his time getting used to a situation he never wanted in the first place, and while it was frustrating for me as a reader, it was believable.

As with all the previous books, this romance was the right combination of angst, drama, and humor without feeling overwhelmed.

“Ben, I don’t want to take your freedom. I just want a place in your world. An important one.” He craned his neck, tipping my chin up to make me look at him at the same time. “Sweetheart, you’ve been important since day one. Only girl I kept coming back to”

It was so good to see the other couples and where they are at in terms of relationships and life, Jimmy was quite a surprise; His growth as a character is even more apparent in this installment. I may have mentioned in my previous reviews how much I love Mal, well this hasn’t changed, he is still my favorite character.

“He’s definitely going to be relieved to get out of the pet hotel. That’s one silver lining at least. The last few times I’ve called, he’s flat-out refused to speak to me.” “He’s a dog, Anne. He can’t talk.” More frowning. “But he used to make these little yipping noises and bark at me. You know what I mean. I’m worried this has given him abandonment issues. He’s a very sensitive animal. He’s like Mal, deep down, in a way.”

To say I’m sad to see this series end is an understatement. The author managed to deliver a memorable series, well written, beautifully delivered plots, amazing relatable characters, traditional tales of romance with new and funny twists.

The Duke of Shadows by Meredith Duran Review

imageIn a debut romance as passionate and sweeping as the British Empire, Meredith Duran paints a powerful picture of an aristocrat torn between two worlds, an heiress who dares to risk everything…and the love born in fire and darkness that nearly destroys them.

From exotic sandstone palaces…

Sick of tragedy, done with rebellion, Emmaline Martin vows to settle quietly into British Indian society. But when the pillars of privilege topple, her fiancé’s betrayal leaves Emma no choice. She must turn for help to the one man whom sheuld not trust, but cannot resist: Julian Sinclair, the dangerous and dazzling heir to the Duke of Auburn.

To the marble halls of London…

In London, they toast Sinclair with champagne. In India, they call him a traitor. Cynical and impatient with both worlds, Julian has never imagined that the place he might belong is in the embrace of a woman with a reluctant laugh and haunted eyes. But in a time of terrible darkness, he and Emma will discover that love itself can be perilous — and that a single decision can alter one’s life forever.

Destiny follows wherever you run.

A lifetime of grief later, in a cold London spring, Emma and Julian must finally confront the truth: no matter how hard one tries to deny it, some pasts cannot be disowned…and some passions never die. (less)

five-stars And more!

So this what a book hangover feels like?! I have finished this book days ago and I still can’t let go of it. I had to google how to get rid of a book hangover but nothing worked, I mourned with Ashlee who seems to be just as lost as me, tried other books to abandon after a few chapters.

One word for this book, GEM.

This novel is uplifting and heart-wrenching at the same time. The writing is faultless, the imagery incredible and the connection between our lovers scorching.

As I read, it was easy to imagine being part of the epic story that our author created, to experience our protagonists’ every emotion.

Our hero was perfect in every way, well to me he was. I know readers relate to books differently and what works for me may not touch other readers as deeply, but Julian was perfection!

Julian’s passion, sense of honor, cynicism at times and love are portrayed wonderfully. Ok I’ m going to fangirl a bit more and declare that he is one of ‘BEST HEROES’ I have read about.

Our heroine is as interesting and likeable, Emma’s character was a joy to read as well as her journey throughout the book. As a reader, I wanted to ease her pain which I felt alongside with her.

They had so many obstacles to overcome, so many things working against that made my heart hurt; I understood what motivated them even though I didn’t agree with a few of their actions.

Now let’s talk about the sex scenes, lately I skim those thinking ‘same old same old’ but not with Julian and Emma; reading them gave more glimpses into their characters, besides the fact that I thought they were HOT.

I would have loved an epilogue, but that’s because I’m greedy and didn’t want to let Julian and Emma go.

I am intrigued by Lockwood’s character and his wife, I googled to see if there is a book written about him yet but found nothing- I would really love to read more about him. I will be trying other books by Ms Duran DEFINITELY.

I usually add quotes, but there are so many that I highlighted and you NEED to read this book to experience every word.

I see her wobble on her feet before she slowly tumbles to the ground. Her knees give out first, then the rest of her. It feels like I should’ve gotten to her earlier, but seconds of panic took place before my mind kicked into gear. And the rest is a blur.

Her friend’s standing over us while I rest her head on my lap. “Lucy,” I say. And it’s the first time I’ve said her name out loud. It’d been over three weeks since I’d learned it.

“What happened?” Logan asks her friend.

“I don’t know.” She’s as panicked as I am, if not worse.

“Is she dehydrated?” Logan picks up what looks like an uneaten sandwich. “Is this hers? Has she eaten?” I don’t know why it annoys me that Logan is asking all the right questions and all I can do is stare down at her. She’s breathing, so I guess that’s something.

He drops down on his knees on the other side of her and pours water from his bottle into his hand, and then he runs it across her forehead and into her hairline.

“Is she alright, mate?” Jake asks. He’s new and has a weird accent but Logan seems to think he’s cool so we keep him around.

Logan does the water thing again, and this time her eyes slowly flutter open.

And I release the breath I was holding.

“It’s okay,” Logan says to her, “you just passed out.”

He’s in her face now, and I want to punch him for being the first thing she sees when she comes to. I was here first; I was the one watching her when she fell.

It should have been me.

“I hate that guy,” Logan jerks his head toward Jake and a new kid.

“The new kid? Dylan?”

He nods. “He thinks he owns the school.”

“Really?” I glare over at them. “Apparently he kills it on the basketball court, but I dunno.” I shrug. “He hasn’t said two words to me. He seems quiet.”

“Those are the ones you have to worry about, Cam. The quiet broody assholes get all the girls. Better watch him around that new girl of yours.”

I play dumb. “What new girl?”

“Shut up, asshole. You don’t think I notice you watching her all the fucking time?”

I lift my chin. “I think if there’s an asshole in this entire school to watch out for, it’s you.”

He laughs and adjusts his cap. “You don’t need to worry about me. I’m not into stealing my friend’s girls.” He shoves his hand in his catcher’s glove and smacks my arm with it. “Say the word. Claim her. I promise to stay away and I’ll make sure she’s untouchable to everyone else.”

“I’m not an asshole and she isn’t property. I can’t own her.”

“If that’s what you want.” He raises an eyebrow. “She’s cute. In a couple years she’ll be hot. Guys will be all over her. I’m just trying to help out.”

I think about what he’s saying, and he makes a good point. Only he’s wrong—she’s hot now. “Fine. I claim her. She’s mine.”

His smirk is instant. “You can’t own someone, you pig. She isn’t property.”

I laugh. “Fuck you.”

Jake struts over to us. “Ya reckon that new kid Dylan can hang out with us this arvo? He seems like a top bloke.”

Logan’s gaze moves to me, confusion clear on his face. I shrug. He lets out a chuckle before gripping both of Jake’s shoulders and shaking him gently. He looks him right in the eye, speaking slowly and clearly. “I have no idea what the fuck you just said.”

Silvana's Review

I read this series in record time, started it not knowing what to expect as I do love Urban Fantasy/Paranormal, but it’s not my go to genre. What happened is I found myself engaged in a way I haven’t been in a while, these books are so addictive, the humor, the suspense element and the unique premise work together to make this an amazing series- add wonderful and fully developed characters and we get the wonderful ‘Charley Davidson Series’
I won’t go on and on about the plot, except that it was well executed, suspenseful and extremely funny.  This was me while reading the books…

Charley as a heroine was a breath of fresh air, loved being in her head. It’s quite unusual for me to read 6 books about the same heroine and not be irritated by her.

Reyes, what can I say about Reyes. I loved him even when he regularly threatened to sever poor Garrett’s spine. Reyes was a great hero to read about; the right amount of conflicted, loving, protective and domineering, just enough without making me want to roll my eyes.

If you’re a lover of a humorous plot delivered perfectly, mystery,  a dash of romance (hot I might add, Reyes and Charley have the greatest chemistry) and intriguing characters, this series is definitely for you.

Now I  have to sit and wait for book 7, tried selling my soul to get it but there were no takers!

I don’t even have a plan B

Silvana's Review
A wonderfully woven tale of misunderstandings, passion and forgiveness.
Written in multiple POV, this story is not unique, the premise is not different but the author made sure to deliver a book that is unique and different with a plot that was well-developed; She had the ability to capture my attention with a stellar writing style, smooth flowing prose and characters I was able to connect with, I was hooked from the first page.

Dominic is a man with many issues brought on by a horrific childhood, Eden is a woman in debt. The moment Dominic sees Eden,  he is consumed by his desire to have her, all he could think of is owning her. Eden’s dire financial situation leads her to accept Dominic’s offer of marriage, thus setting up the events that make up this compelling novel; She naively thinks that with this union, she will find stability, a safety net and hopefully happiness. Boy is she wrong because all Dominic sees in her is a gold digging opportunist and he treats her as such for 4 miserable years.

Eden finally has enough and decides to flee, we see Dominic doing and using every means in his possession in order to find her. Their reunion is a wake up call for him, he starts to reassess his former beliefs where Eden is concerned, he begins to SEE her and in doing so, he sees the horrific mistakes he committed in their marriage.

I went in expecting to hate Dominic, but couldn’t. He was as the title suggests behaving like a monster but was he really one?  Dominic was  a mystery that I wanted to see unraveled.

She didn’t understand how someone could be such an open enigma. But that was exactly how Eden saw him. She’d formed an opinion of him long ago based on her experiences and she’d been content to believe in that opinion as true, until now. It was the mystery of him that piqued her unfailing curiosity and try as she might, she could not abandon the idea that there was much more to him than what he chose to display to her and the rest of the world.

I loved seeing Dominic do everything in his power to get Eden to forgive him and to be redeemed, I loved him full-stop.

“I want you to tell me how to make it better.” “How can you make it better when we’re already so broken? How can you make it better when I’m so afraid to let you in?” “Don’t…don’t give up on me,” he entreated. “I know I can be the man you deserve, Eden.”

Eden is a great heroine, she is a strong one. Enjoyed being in her head, felt her pain, pitied her indecision and admired her love for Dominic yet at the same time protecting herself and what’s really important. One person I took a strong dislike to was Jenna, Eden’s so-called best friend.

All I can add is that I will definitely reread Monster in the future. This is my first book by Francette Phal but certainly won’t be my last, in fact having read a sneak peek into her next novel, I’m already looking forward to it and to Carver.

***ARC provided Via Netgalley in exchange for an honest opinion***

Jointly reviewed by Nancy (Casperfitz) and Silvana, another winner and we had a blast reading this novel.

Seriously this is one of these books that leaves the reader with a big smile and a light heart, even hours after they put it down. A funny, romantic and utterly captivating tale with two of the most adorable protagonists, Anne and Mal were an absolute pleasure to read; The author managed to create great chemistry and a solid connection between these two.

We read about Mal in book 1 Lick and he was one of the most endearing characters, so glad to see that the author managed to pair him with an equally endearing and strong woman like Anne who gave him balance. Their relationship starts out as a game but quickly turns into a funny and romantic courtship.

Being in Anne’s head was an absolute hoot! What a wonderful female lead, she was not whiny, weak or broken in-spite of her awful childhood, on the contrary she was stronger because of it.  She had her fears and insecurities, but she didn’t let her past dictate her path in life. Her ways in dealing/reacting towards  Mal were perfect.

Mal, oh what can we say about Mal , an absolute sweetheart, one of the funniest and hottest male heroes. God the dorky things that came out of his mouth were hilarious.

He just made us laugh from start to finish.

We loved  reading about Mal through Anne’s eyes, and how we glimpsed a depth and intensity to him, despite the nonchalant facade he likes to show to the outside world.

Kylie Scott managed to create the most wonderfully satisfying supporting characters, each fascinating in their own way.  Well maybe Reece was an annoying pest at times but he didn’t make you feel like you want to throw your kindle against the wall. Can’t wait for Ben and Jimmy stories, these two grow on you in book 2.

One thing we liked about this book  are the family dynamics, Mal and his family had a wonderful, touching relationship. Anne was the most wonderful older sister, protective and loving.  The friendship between the four members is so strong and love how they have each other’s backs, they acted more like brothers.

A brilliant and superbly written book… made us laugh so hard, tear-up some,  and laugh some more. We HIGHLY recommend.
